Dutch vocabulary, one theme at a time.

The words you need for the A2 inburgering exam. For every theme you get a word list with de or het and an example sentence. With the flashcards you check straight away what you already know.

How it works

  1. Choose a theme. Start with one you need often.
  2. Practise with the flashcards. For every word you choose: I know it, or not yet.
  3. At the end you see which words you still need to learn.

Questions about vocabulary and the exam

How many words do I need for the inburgering exam?

There is no fixed list. DUO does not publish an official word list. For A2 you know the words you need every day. Think of your home, the doctor, your work and the municipality. The themes on this page give you a good base.

Why do I learn de or het with every word?

Every Dutch noun has de or het. You usually cannot tell from the word itself. So learn it together with the word. The grammar rule De or het explains more.

What is the best way to remember new words?

Repeat them often, in short rounds. Ten minutes every day works better than one hour once a week. Use the word in a sentence too. Say that sentence out loud.
